The Kite Runner

A great read. One of the best fiction books I have read. The story is set in Afghanistan of 2 friends. The story is very touching with a lot of twists. The time period also fairly large...starting in early 1970's and moving till 2003. The good part about the book is you feel some part of you associated with it while reading it. The story is inspired by the author (an afghan national) childhood time spent in Afghanistan & Iran. The story starts as a flash back moves into the past and comes back to the present in a very smooth way. A young boy(Amir) belonging to a rich family has his closest friend (Hassan) who lives in the servant quarters of the same house. They mostly are together playing around and yes flying kites every year when the Kite flying competition took. Hassan is the best kite runner who is able to spot the location of lost kites. The last opponent kite is usually considered as the prized possession of the winner. All is well until one day something happens which changes things forever and it will take years to bring back things to normal before which many characters are already put to sleep and some new ones enter.
Later after finishing the book I was reading more about the author Khaled. He is a doctor by profession , makes me wonder there is no age to spot your own talent :).

Well.. you are absolutely correct on what you've written here.

Superb book and may be the best fiction I've read so far. Very emotional and touching story that I'll never forget.

I read the book after watching the movie and I must say the book is 1000 times better than the movie and I'm so glad that I read the book even after watching the movie as you lose the interest of reading the book after watching the movie.

This is a book you could enjoy from very first sentence to the very last sentence and you don't feel like you are reading a fiction but a real story that has happened in the real life. The writer has not given a single chance for the reader to feel that this is his own imagination and that's one main reason why I like this book a lot.

I always cry while watching movies but I had never cried while reading a book until I read this book. This book made me cry at two occasions. First when Amir betrayed his loyal and very innocent friend Hassan and second when reading the letter written by Hassan.

So I must say that this is a story which could touch any sensitive heart effortlessly.

I agree, an enjoyment to read from very first to the last sentence. About what you said about crying, yes tear drops fell for me too......and I am not much emotional kind so can see the power of authors writing. One just cant help it.When you see so much pent up emotions and complete silence of the characters you do it for them.Thats what I felt like.People might laugh when you tell them until they read it for themselves.
