Story fun...

I used to be a big story lover while I was a kid and today while putting my son to sleep I was on the other side.......just thought of putting it down before it fades away from my memory :)

STORY 1
So the first one was for GIRAFFE as requested by son....
Me: "Which color Giraffe story you want to hear?"
Son: "Yellow"
Me: "Ok"
Me:" There used to be a yellow giraffe with long neck in a jungle. All animals used to approach him and ask why you have such a long neck. The Giraffe didnt know the answer so he went to his mother and said...Mom...Mom... why do we have such long necks....Giraffe mom said....very good question....listen son we are leaf eaters and we dont have wings so we cant be like other birds.....so we had to jump to get the leaf....and over a long time jumping jumping our necks became long ". The Giraffe son is ecstatic and says to his mom " THANK YOU very much mom...now I know why we have long necks :-)"
END

son is attentively listening and now asks for a second story of a CAR
Me: "Ok,this is last story after this you need to sleep n, OK?"
Son: "Haan (Yes)"

STORY 2
Me: "Ok, so there used to be this car whose one headlight was not working. The Car asked headlight why you are not working to which it responded that since my connections are loose I am not able to function properly. Please take me to a mechanic who can fix me up. (Mechanic- Is a person who is expert in fixing the cars). So the car takes it to the mechanic. On seeing the car/headlight mechanic asks how come you got into this condition? So headlight says one of the kids playing with it threw the car from the bed and it got into current state. So mechanic said ah very bad. I keep telling all kids do not throw any toy from bed or from a height because it can get broken and damaged. It is a bad thing and must not be done.So the car asks headlight we will go to the kid once you are fixed. The mechanic fixes up headlight and it is working fine now....car/headlight say thank you to mechanic and push of to find the kid.... after some time they spot the kid playing....they approach and tell kid that never to throw toys from a height...they get damaged if he did that. They tell him about mechanic uncle and what he had to say. The kid says he will not do it again...and so the CAR with fixed headlight happily goes back to him.
END
son is still very much attentive and now asks for a third one on TRAIN
Me:" Nop, we had agreed for 2 and thats it. If you insist on more I will have to tell ambulance uncle to take you with him"

After some time ,the train arrives and the first coach of train is its Engine which blares out Choo Choo.. As soon as the train stops the kid rushes to the engine coach . after entering he asks the engine, why do you always do Choo Choo...and chuk chuk chuk chuk sounds? .....to which the engine replies..." Ah, thats a nice question kid, I am glad you asked it....see train is very big and travels over tracks... so in order to alert people please give way I am coming so that no one is hurt....I do Choo Choo...and chuk chuk chuk chuk.... Engine says," if I dont do that people may not hear me coming and could get hurt so for safety of all I have to make sound of Choo Choo and chuk chuk chuk chuk.... the kid is very happy and thanks the engine for telling him the reason. Passport renewal...

Urgent requirement of client site travel led to sudden requirement of passport renewal at earliest. I was least expecting a travel else could have planned better. Anyways passport  validity was over last year and need to be renewed for this unforeseen travel.
So I landed up on passport site and started with registering process. That went on smooth. Even the custom built pdf form for filling up the application was very easy to fill no hassles. Good job by the authorities and designers.

But after the filling of application process the condition of only online booking for appointments was horrible. Since I was trying for Tatkal I selected that option for booking. After repeated failures I checked on google if some policy change has happened. To my surprise the Tatkal online booking was cancelled from mid 2012 but on the site no mention of it and in the drop down of options one is still able to select TATKAL. I would have been wiser to remove the option from dropdown altogether or mention on the main site that TATKAL booking is stopped but nevertheless who cares????
Then on searching -2012 Hindu article I found out that TATKAL booking should be done under NORMAL booking only. Later I traced it in website too.

I tried through NORMAL booking but in 3 minutes each day the seats get filled. for 3 days I have been trying... today I was bit close where it showed appointment timings...but when i selected.... the internet explorer showed error due to heavy rush on site I guess. By the time i filled details again all booking slots were gone. Some 2000+ slots gone in 3 minutes :|...

Next was checking on the documents needed for renewal . Site mentions only 2 documents needed . Old passport copy and proof of current residential address. I wanted to double check with customer care executive. To get through the executive is minimum 5-10 minutes. Even after that sometimes the call just hangs up for no reason.... its like you have just reached the entrance of place and the place disappears :P when you are about to ring the bell.

After repeated tries I was able to connect through the executive. But to my surprise he said i need Annexure D as I have got married now. I also asked him I am not able to book an appointment so if I can directly go to the Passport Office to book  a walk in appointment. He said ok when I said It is urgent for travel to client site. When I checked on site...annexure D is for woman applicants... no way he could have confused my voice for that of a woman for sure :P.  Wonder why he suggested>>>>>>

To reconfirm I called up again to call center and after few hung ups i was successful in speaking to the executive. This executive said only 2 documents needs as what site mentioned. So BINGO ! but to my disappointment he simply rejected the idea of getting appointment by walking in to Passport office. HE just said only through web you need to do.... not listening to me that I have been unsuccessful for past 3 days and need appointment urgently....

Now, I plan to Passport Office tomorrow and request for a walk in appointment. Let me see if I get any success there.............

---wanted to but this down to ease my frustration :|

A Geography of Time by Robert Levine

An Excellent read on TIME !
Perception of time across different cultures and different people has been aptly studied by the author and interesting observations are made on same basis. Talking about the history of time to the current locking people have to the clock dial and the differences which author experienced through personal experience and experiments carried out by him with help of his students. Even within big countries the differences persist between different regions.

After reading and living in a fast paced city I could relate to what author was saying. Also, another point got clarified that living in fast paced city does not necessarily mean a bad thing... it all depends on Personal Tempo and how flexible one is as per the need of the hour. It also plays a vital role in relationships as if personal tempos are different and inflexible it will be very challenging to tune along with your partner.
The cross linkage element of this study of time to many facets of day to day life is clearly reflected as one reads through the book.

India will have various cultures of time for sure as I have experienced on my own being a native and living in both North and South India. Differences need to be appreciated and noted. But mostly I find people getting jittery and uncomfortable with that and start complaining of all what does not fit right in their view. I too indulge in it sometimes :P.

Listing few of the interesting observations
- Patience derived from latin word for more suffering
-Travel derived from french word "Travail" meaning hard work and penance.
-experience with a Japanese friend: “Oftentimes a ‘Yes’ is just a way of saying, ‘You’ve really got a good idea there.’ One of my colleagues is a Japanese national . . . I [might say to her]: ‘Work meeting, noon, Friday at the Maple Garden Restaurant. Okay?’ She says, ‘Maple Garden, what a great choice for a restaurant.’ Now is that a ‘Yes’ or a ‘No’? It’s a ‘Yes’ from my perspective. But from her perspective, she’s just telling me what great taste I have in restaurant choices. She hasn’t committed to showing up. Oftentimes ‘yes’ meaning ‘no’ and ‘no’ meaning ‘yes’ is to keep a positive current going through the relationship.”
-The Japanese, for example, hold the concept of ma—roughly meaning the spaces or intervals between objects and activity—in the highest esteem. Westerners might refer to the space between a table and a chair as empty. The Japanese refer to the space as “full of nothing.” What doesn’t happen for the Japanese is often more important than what does occur, a concept that often baffles Western visitors. For example, comprehending the meaning of verbal communication in Japan requires attending to what is not said, sometimes more than to what actually is said. Because of this, simply understanding the difference between “yes” and “no” can make a naive gaijin (foreigner) have a fit. Although the Japanese have a definite word for “no” (iie), it is rarely used. Most questions, it turns out, are answered “yes” (hai), or not answered at all, no matter whether the respondent means “yes” or “no.”
-Psychological pleasure is, I think, channeled in time, as physical pain or satisfaction runs along the conduits of our nerves. When time compresses and shortens, it strangles pleasure; when it diffuses into aimlessness, the self thins out into affectless torpor. Pleasure exists in middle time, in time that is neither too accelerated or too slowed down.
-By working for and with the group, the pressure is divided among one’s co-workers. As a result, Japanese workers appear to avoid much of the stress that typically accompanies hard work in the West.
