Satyamev Jayate

Watched a new show by Aamir Khan today named Satyamev Jayate (Truth alone prevails).

A show with a very good cause to bring masses to reality and think on pressing issues for the Indian society at large. The topic of discussion for today was "Female foeticide". I had a firm belief so far that majority of these cases happen because of illiteracy and education will overcome but the facts shown during the show revealed a much more disturbing picture. Its the educated masses where its tend to percolate more. Also exposed was the business being made out of ultrasound business and sex determination by collaboration of doctors, medical companies agents. Over and above even after sting operation by journalist in Rajasthan...they are the ones doing court rounds. It was sad. It was more tearful to hear the stories of some of the woman who shared their experiences including a doctor herself living with in-laws where all are highly educated people. This is sickness and the feeling is hard to digest. Kudos to Aamir and his team who had done a thorough research on the subject to cover different aspects.

Had it been education as key cause the effort would have been very directed but this being a mindset issue it is very hard and long process to change.

What's in with a boy thing?? Dowry is banned but still practiced....is that the only cause?? Is it the old age support? Now with woman coming into workforce this should ease out but does not seem to be the case from those shown in the TV Show. I don't know. Society is fast changing but still it takes a generation to get new ideas and mindset into place.

And true things will change if each one of us decides to change his/her mindset first and it does not have to do with education alone.

All the Best ! to Aamir and his team for more such insights of our society and I will surely change my thinking /approach if I am wrong somewhere.... next will come about how I can contribute my bit in each cause.

Call of the Wild

Call of the Wild takes us through the story of a dog called Buck. The background is set is early period of 1903 by author Jack London during the gold rush period. I came to know about this book through a TED talk Dr Anu Vaidyanathan .
It takes through the journey of Buck having good time as a tamed dog with a Judge's family to the being sold off by servant to the gold rush parties.... had to toil through extreme conditions of survival and good instinct to survive the ordeal... learning many things on the way and finally realizing his true potential and living up to it.

Do all of us realize our true potential?
Is it always has to be an life turning event to prompt us to think harder?

I feel like I am sitting in a cocoon...and not ready to come out unless someone breaks the cocoon itself. There is so much more which can be achieved but I am putting on too many breaks on self. Money is driving everything.... damn.. or may be my own self... Need to BUCK UP.

I would recommend this book to all who find themselves in slumber ( unless they realize they are ;) ) !!

Cycling to Harohalli !

One of the adventurous and tough trip. Cycling with a bunch of enthusiasts can be quite challenging. After a long time pain feels good :) . Amazing group of cyclist with incredible energy...way far off better than me... who was left panting... puff puff... and pulling down from bike at every uphill towards the later half.

Thanks to Imran for bringing this event to my notice. Fatigued, skin burns but there is a feeling of satisfaction which is sweet . I don't know if it is me only but I feel most would be like me when they are enjoying the activity they are doing even though it is tough .
